Hands-on with Gamevil’s Dungeon Link, a different kind of Puzzle-RPG currently in beta testing

Written by AndrewH

When people here the term Puzzle-RPG, generally one thinks of an RPG title meshed with a match-3 puzzle game. Dungeon Link from Gamevil is really a Puzzle-RPG but is really a small different type of game you would then think with it finding yourself in that genre. Actually the puzzle aspect of this game is really a much more action-based then you would expect so that it is.

Currently in closed beta testing, Dungeon Link is more of a dungeon crawling RPG with a unique puzzle element which you use to fight your enemies with. When you start the sport, you will select which class you want to play as. You will find five to select from and are you standard classes: Knight, Rogue, Mage, Healer, Archer. After that you jump in to the game, do some tutorial, and start your quest to eventually get rid of the Demon King.

Tracing lines to fight enemies

Dungeons are filled with various monsters and the occasional power-up (increase attack, defense, heal character) as well as square spaces. Moving your character and attacking is performed by tracing a line from your starting point to the matching colored square space. Any monsters in or near your path are attacked as you move. As this is a party-based RPG, you’ll do that for the characters currently in your party. Each character also has their own special abilities (special attacks on single target or every enemy as well as group healing) which you can use by tapping on your character’s portrait. There is also a “Perfect Attack” that is accomplished any time you successfully use up every space in one turn with your characters. These are really strong group-based attacks where your whole group teams up for one big offensive.

Enhancing and Evolving

You can gain levels your character while you progress with the game. Addititionally there is the opportunity to Enhance your characters, which is made by sacrificing monsters along with other party members you collect on the way but are not using or don’t intend to use. Enhancing gives your characters increases for their stats when successful. Addititionally there is the ability to Evolve your character. This is accomplished by leveling them as much as 30 as well as having +5 enhancement completed to it. When your character has reached that point, you can sacrifice a fairy and Evolve your character to a higher star ranking. One star is the lowest, 5 star may be the current highest ranking for heroes.

Map and Main Base

Outside of finding heroes throughout the dungeons, in addition to monsters to add to your party, you are able to recruit them when in your little town, that is actually a lot more like a single building that houses all you need. This is when you do your Evolving, Enhancing, adding Runes to your characters (that are temporary stat buffs), editing your party, and so forth. Currently you will find over 250 different heroes to gather.

Dungeon Link has gold as the currency you earn in-game which is used to purchase certain things in addition to pay for services like Evolving and Enhancing. There is a secondary currency that are Gems. This is also employed for buying some things and recruiting heroes. Both currencies could be increased through IAPs but you can also earn them through completing dungeons, daily quests, and some other pursuits. Despite the fact that IAPs exist for both, there hasn’t been a need to even think about using them yet as it is pretty simple to find both Gold and Gems. Occasionally there are also silver and gold recruitment cards that you simply use to recruit heroes.

Daily along with other Events

There are a lot of other more intricate information regarding Dungeon Link such as Chain Attacks (using several characters to fight at the same time by chaining paths together), elemental weaknesses of monsters (Wood types are weak against Fire type heroes/attacks and so on), special elemental what to recruit special heroes with, daily quests, Boss raids, event dungeons such as the never-ending tower, traps in dungeons, the stamina system for storyline quests (I’ve yet to operate from stamina), different amounts of damage to dungeons, and much more. So far Dungeon Link has been quite enjoyable to experience.

Of course this is in no way the official review of Dungeon Link. It’s really a little more of an in-depth hands-on with the game while it is in beta testing. As it is in beta, lots of this could change before the game’s actual release, although I can’t observe that happening. It’s pretty much done already exception for just about any bugs and balancing problems that may exist that our found during this testing phase. As for once the global launch may happen, right now the end of April 2015 is what has been stated.
