OrangePixel working on a new game called Space Grunts, a blend of turn-based and arcade shooter

Masters from the mobile retro games, OrangePixel is currently focusing on a brand new title called Space Grunts and are releasing development videos revealing the gameplay even though it is being built. What is really intriguing relating to this game is that it will apparently be a mixture of turn-based gameplay and arcade shooter. Obviously it will also feature OrangePixel’s unique style of pixel art.

Space Grunts looks like a dungeon crawler in the way the levels are made. In fact within the older videos released by OrangePixel this month, the title from the video was Prototype: Heroes of Loot 2, and therefore this game would be considered a sequel for their gauntlet-style game Heroes of Loot. However, for those who have played Heroes of Loot, you will know it’s not a turn-based game which is actually quite fast-paced. It also isn’t an arcade shooter since that will want it to not possess a fantasy theme which Heroes of Loot does have.

So it seems at some point in the development process, that which was going to be Heroes of Loot 2 has actually become Space Grunts. From what we should have seen from OrangePixel previously with early development information, this ‘evolution’ in the theme from the game they’re focusing on in those days seems to happen often. The game starts as one thing but by the time it’s finished, it is vastly different.

So what’s Space Grunts about? Well there isn’t a large amount of details released right now when it comes to features and things of that nature. What we can say for certain is it will blend Turn-based gameplay by having an arcade shooter. It is an interesting mix. When more details are freed relating to this game, we will post an update. In the meantime, if you are interested in the whole development process, or just want to see the sport for action because it is being built, OrangePixel is continuously releasing videos showing Space Grunts because it is being built. You should check those out over on their own YouTube channel.
