It is pretty interesting to determine game developers testing out new things that haven’t really been done before and an upcoming game for mobile called Spells of Genesis is one of those games. What is farmville doing that hasn’t really been done before? Well the big feature is that Spells of Genesis is going to be using the Bitcoin Blockchain for that game’s economy.
The game itself is a mix of a TCG as well as an arcade game. Players will be heading out in to the world of Moonga (that was the world in the company’s first release) in which you will be encountering lots of opponents to complete struggle with. The battle system is Spells of Genesis concentrates on both strategy and skill which blends both the use of your cards along with a more standard kind of arcade gameplay. Yet it’s the in-game economy that’s interesting.
Spells of Genesis will have the whole in-game economy powered by the Bitcoin Blockchain. It’s kind of difficult to explain but essentially since the in-game economy (the currency being BitCrystals) is ‘powered’ through the Bitcoin Blockchain, you can literally do whatever you want using the cards inside your collection since they’re also tied in to the blockchain. In other games the cards you’ve you do not really own, they’re just locked for your requirements. However in this game, and just how the economy works, you actually own your cards so that you can do whatever you want with them including trading or selling them completely separate from almost anything to do with the game itself. In other words the gamer base can help fuel the economy from the game through the use of selling and trading of cards.
We may not be explaining it the best. We encourage anyone interested in farmville, and particularly the economy of it, to read the developer’s description of methods it’ll all work. It will likely be interesting to determine how well this new system works. The game itself will be free-to-play when it is released. As for when that will be, right now there is really a Summer 2015 time frame.
