Sonic Runners gets a new trailer and additional details released

Written by AndrewH

Back in December 2014 we reported on Sonic Runners coming to mobile this season which is being developed by the Sonic Team rather than SEGA actually doing the work. Unfortunately, whenever we reported on the game, there were very little details offered at that point. Actually there basically had not been at all. Today there exists a bit more to go on including an actual trailer.

All from the new details game from a job interview between Famitsu and also the current Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. Basically Sonic Runners will probably be an auto-running side-scrolling game but with stages. Each level, or episode because he calls them, should really run roughly 2 minutes long. Therefore the game will probably be gear towards having both short bursts of gameplay in addition to long ones should you feel like grinding out levels. As the main focus is going to be on Sonic, as per usual, other character is going to be making an appearance as well including Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman.

As you may be guessing, there will also be power-ups open to use like most running style games. According to Takashi, Sonic Team is looking to have a fair quantity of levels offered at launch too, hoping that the number will be around 50 to start off with. Sonic Runners won’t stray too far from the level type of previous Sonic games either, featuring such things as loops and comes. There will also be lots of hidden routes you can find too throughout the game’s levels.

As for any release date, nothing specific was mentioned, only that it will be arriving soon in Japan and many likely worldwide at around the same time. Like all running games, Sonic Runners will be free with optional IAPs. The job interview is pretty long if you wish to check it out, just check out Famitsu.
